Philip was quickly realised to be a sensitive and talanted soul who missed deserved fame. This was due to his ongoing 'intense Bohemianism' and the effects of extraordinary events that caused unsociable and unconventional behaviour. Such a lifestyle ensured he was hidden in the shadows of his famous poetic peers, as well as his 'well to do' and wealthy, closed minded and ashamed family.

Philip was known, and then suddenly lost, to the largest audience in Colonial Australia, through his published poetry, in most newspapers and journals, from 1868 to 1897.
He was an Academic, an Explorer, an accomplished Poet and Writer. Most importantly though, Philip Lorimer was, unlike others, true to himself and others, but he died lone

He was an Academic, an Explorer, an accomplished Poet and Writer. Most importantly though, Philip Lorimer was, unlike others, true to himself and others, but he died lonely and misunderstood, as an always free and independent spirit.
He is the only Australian Poet, to camp out, living amongst nature during all of his creative period, for 20 years, entitling him the title of being 'The Only True Australian Bush Poet.'
